The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, a five-story, vertical addition to an existing ten-story building, is located in an urban setting adjacent to the subway system. The building footprint was not increased. The significant increase in square footage is a result of building vertically – an ideal sustainable solution. In order to encourage use of public transportation, no additional parking spaces were added. The project used light colored roofing and paving to minimize the heat island effect. The new addition allows for the expansion of patient clinics, classrooms, and offices, as well as continuing education and research facilities. Fore Solutions was the LEED Consultant to ARC Cambridge for the expansion of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
