Genzyme expanded their manufacturing facility in Allston, MA and added a central plant with a cogeneration unit to create their own power onsite. Waste heat, captured from natural gas turbines, is transferred and used to heat hot water and supplement the building’s heating load. This glass expansion on the south side of the building maximizes the use of natural daylight through light shelves that reflect light deep into the space while providing shading in the summer months.  The lighting design by LAM Partners has significantly lowered the energy required for lighting, which includes daylight dimming controls and occupancy sensors. Fore Solutions was the LEED Consultant to ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge on this project.
